Mike Essex, known as “Coach Mike,” is a hard working basketball skills development coach experienced in teaching all age groups and skill levels. For close to a decade, he has built a positive reputation throughout the area for his wealth of knowledge and ability to yield results. He has an uncanny ability to give each player exactly what they need to advance their game.
Coach Mike began playing basketball in 1st grade. He trained himself on his skills and never left house without a basketball in his hand. His hard work paid off and culminated into securing the starting point guard position on his high school varsity squad his final two years. As an adult, Coach Mike saw a need in the marketplace for personal skill training and embarked on his next basketball venture by starting Train Hard Play EZ. He has taken all he has learned as a player and coach and has translated that into training some of the best basketball players and teams in the region. Train Hard Play EZ was formed to provide an opportunity for kids from all walks of life to learn how to develop their skills and reach their basketball goals.
Coach Mike served as one of the pioneers in getting the Keller Lady Knights organization up and running and currently trains young people within KYA, as well as other local ball clubs. Many of the young men and young women that train with Coach Mike have developed into varsity high school and collegiate players through his commitment to their overall skill development. He brings passion to his teaching and introduces innovative drills and skill breakdowns for his players that keep the workouts intense, engaging and fun for players. For any player looking to significantly improve their game, an opportunity to train with Coach Mike is not one to be missed!!
Mike has been with American Airlines for 23 years. A native of Alexandria, VA, he currently resides in the Dallas/Fort Worth area with his wife and three sons.
